The Department of Biology at the University of Oregon offers expertise and research opportunities in a wide range of disciplines including neuroscience, genetics, cell and developmental biology, evolution, ecology, and marine biology. At Dartmouth biology, you’ll find diverse disciplines, prestigious faculty with a breadth of experience in biological processes, and next-generation resources and equipment. Our authors and readers reflect a broad interdisciplinary group of scientists who study molecular, cellular and organismal physiology in an evolutionary and environmental context. In neurobiology you will concentrate solely on the nervous system, often focusing on the brain, with the goal of developing treatments for both psychiatric and neurological ailments, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge of the most complex and least understood part of the human body.
Our faculty members are world-class researchers and teachers who share an excitement for the life sciences. The course now incorporates an optional fourth year, meaning students can either leave after three years with a BA or choose to stay on and complete an extended project under the supervision of an academic member of staff (which can be lab or field-based), in addition to advanced research skills training.
Science also refers to the body of knowledge produced by scientific investigation. The content of the test is organized into three major areas: cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, and ecology and evolution. The new Biology course was introduced for the first time in 2019; hence we do not have any graduates yet. The fact biological sciences is driven by research and allows students the space to find their niche interest, a master’s degree is often the next step and is required pursue a research-based career.

Biological science as done in the laboratory is so much more complicated than Wason’s test systems that it’s certainly fair to question the relevance of simple card tricks played on unsuspecting undergraduate students on what educated people in white coats do in the lab.
The environmental studies and environmental science majors examine environmental challenges faced by humans from an array of perspectives, including anthropology, biology, chemistry, economics, engineering, geography, geology, history and philosophy. All students are encouraged to participate in an independent study or Honors project, in which you can work closely with a member of the biology faculty on a research topic.
