Sacraments

Baptism

We are happy that you have chosen to have your child baptized with us here at St. Raphael. We hope this will be the beginning of a life-long commitment you and your child are making to God and the Church through Jesus Christ.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism outside of Mass.  The sacrament can be celebrated after any of our four weekend Masses.

Baptism is the gateway to sacramental life:  It makes us children of God, members of the Body of Christ, and members of the Church.   Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life.  (CCC, 1213)

In Baptism, we are forever marked as belonging to Christ, nothing, not even our own sin, can remove this mark. (CCC, 1272)

Reconciliation

Every time we sin, we hurt ourselves, other people, and God. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also called Penance or Confession) was given to us by Christ to help us reconcile with Christ and his Church when we have committed harm. Through the Sacrament, we acknowledge our sins, express our sorrow in a meaningful way, receive the forgiveness of Christ and his Church, make reparation for what we have done and resolve to do better in the future.

  • Weekly Reconciliation

Every Saturday 2:30 - 3:30pm or by appointment through the Parish Office 458-2500

  • First Reconciliation

Preparing children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation allows us to show them that God is love and that in mercy He is always ready to forgive, no matter what the wrong.  In addition, God’s will is that all people will be reconciled with one another and with God.

If the child attends St. Raphael school, they will receive preparation for and the Sacrament of Reconciliation in 2nd grade.

If the child attends another school, they will take part in our PREP (Parish Religious Education Program).  Click Here to contact Brandan Holbrook, Children’s Formation Coordinator for more information.

Eucharist

Our celebration of the Eucharist, the Mass, is one act of worship divided into two parts: Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  This is our act of thanksgiving where bread and wine are consecrated by Christ himself, through his instrument, the priest.  The Body and Blood of Christ is divine nourishment.

    Anointing of the Sick

  • Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering.  By the sacred anointing and the prayer of the priest, the whole Church commends those who are sick to Christ.  The sick person receives the Holy Spirit’s gifts of strength, faith, peace, and courage. While it is possible that the sacrament could bring physical healing, Anointing of the Sick is primarily about the healing of hope and of the spirit.
